With firm commitment to strengthening civil society in the Caribbean and helping it develop its ability to present proposals, the 2nd Grater Caribbean Civil Society Forum was held in Bridgetown, Barbados from December 2nd to 5th 1998. This gathering was attended by more than 800 NGOs and social movements. The Forum thus continues its endeavors to be recognized as a legitimate voice before the council of Ministers of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), as a major actor that wishes to give the patterns of integration in the region a new dimension and further promote proposals for alternative development, one that favors the needy. Significant among the topics discussed were: integration, trade relations and civil society; comprehensive development; democracy and governance in integration. The issues of the environment, gender, the culture of integration; science, education and technology and the Caribbean job market were also analyzed.
